Brass- Dogon Horseman, 7"
|
Brass Dogon Horseman (aged). Fine example of African artwork unique to Dogon tribe. Dogons; as well as most others in West Africa; attribute tremendous prestige to ownership of a horse. Even today, some consider this greater status than owning a car. To honor ancestors, the deceased is often shown on horse. Helmet reflects back to a time when Dogons defended themselves against Muslim invaders who drove them into cliffs that they live by to this day. Approximately 7.5" tall. Solid Brass. Item # A-B182.
