Brass Dogon Horseman (aged). Fine example of African artwork unique to the Dogon tribe. Dogons; as well as most other people groups in West Africa; attribute tremendous prestige to ownership of a horse. Even today, some consider this a greater status symbol than owning a car. In this particular piece the figure is a representation of a departed ancestor, as he is riding a horse this shows that he was a great person. Also, the figure represented is wearing a helmet. This signifies that the person was accomplished in the arts of war. Made of solid bronze. Approx. 5" tall Made in Ivory Coast
